Trinamool Congress blames state govt for law and order mismanagement

IMPHAL, May 12: The Trinamol Congress (Manipur) has blamed the state government for its failure in maintaining law and order in the state and for the lack of development in the hills areas of the state.

Speaking to the media at a press conference at the party office, former MP Kim Gangte and the President of the Manipur state Trinamol Congress said that the present situation of the rising number of crimes in the state and the inability of the Government to ensure justice for victims and giving punishment to those involved is an indicator of the failure of the law and order system. Calling the police recruitment process as 'nothing but buying and selling', she alleged that Rs 4-5 lakhs are being taken as bribe money for the post of a constable and Rs 10-Rs 14 lakhs for the post of Sub Inspector. "There is no such thing as a merit system and those fit to be policemen but do not have money are not able to get in to the system," she lamented.

Kim Gangte further pointed out that the State Chief Minister had earlier announced to provide 24 hour electric power supply to the people of state but till today, the people are only able to use only two to three hours of electricity daily and blamed the Government for imposing a load shedding of power supple in the state.

Maintaining that it is very rare to see any development works being taken up in the Hills district of the state, Kim Gangte further said that all the Ministers and the MLAs of the state need to look for themselves how they have developed in the past 10 years and pointed out that the Ministers and MLAs of the state are only involved in the contract work of their concerned assembly constituencies.
