MPCC observes 49th death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

IMPHAL, May 27: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee observed the 49th death Anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at its BT Road Congress Bhavan today.

In the absence of the state Chief Minister who is in Myanmar to attend the North East India-Myanmar Business Conclave, the MPCC president led the observation proceedings.

The MPCC members led by its president, Gaikhangam offered floral tributes to a portrait of the late Prime Minister.

Addressing media persons at the end of the function, Gaikhagnam said Jawahar Lal Nehru was a true freedom fighter of the country and had been involved in several agitations and demonstrations including the Non-Alignment movement during the British Rule.

He further appealed to the people to follow the dream of the late leader to see India as a peaceful country where people of different communities live harmoniously together.

He also said that the AICC general secretary in-charge Luizinho Faleiro will unveil a statue of the first Prime Minister on June 5 at the Congress Bhavan. The party’s national general secretary in charge will also address members of around 2600 party units of the state on the same day.
