Manipur Sahitya Parishad observes 78th Annual Meet

IMPHAL, May 10: The two day observation of the 78th Annual Meet of the Manipur Sahitya Parishad was inaugurated today at the Manipur Dramatic Union Hall, jointly organized by the Manipur Sahitya Parishad and the Manipur Dramatic Union.

The observation will continue till May 11.

Speaking at the function, the state Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro said that he will provide some financial assistance for the construction of the new building of the Parishad.

He said the assistance will come from his MLA Local Area Development Fund which can now be used outside of one’s own constituency.

He reiterated that the state government will open a separate Language Directorate and added will try to translate all books written in Bengali script into Meitei Mayek.

The state Education Minister said, in the coming years, the government will introduce Meitei Mayek in tje Board of Secondary Education, Manipur conducted Class X examination and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur conducted Class XII exam.

Sahitya Parishad president, Elangbam Dinamani said there are several civil society organizations in the state which works towards the development of the Manipuri literature and script and said that both people and the government need to encourage such organizations.
