Irabanta remains missing one year on: JAC

IMPHAL, May 27: The Joint Action Committee against the abduction of Irungbam Irabanta reportedly by NSCN-IM has informed the government that agitations will be launched again soon in association with state level organizations and people.

Addressing media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, S Loken Meitei, Spokesperson of the JAC said Irabanta has remained traceless even after a year has been completed today since he went missing. Irabanta, it may be mentioned was abducted on May 27 last year. Many memorandums and ultimatums were submitted to the government regarding the abduction but no positive response was received on the matter.

Despite all assurance, the government has not been able not produce the abductors or give any leads in the case. The JAC hoped that some information on Irabanta would be ascertained when the arrest of Winner, the main accused in the abduction, was made by Ukhrul district police, Loken added.

He regretted, however that the hope went in vain as there has been no declaration made over Irabanta's fate.  It was  once said by the home department that Irabanta was in the camp of NSCN-IM, S Loken Meitei claimed dding that the JAC had imposed a total blockade along Imphal-Ukhrul Road which was withdrawn when the Home Minister appealed to do so in consideration with Christmas.

NSCN-IM too did not response or clarifies on the abduction. The JAC hoped that government would help, but a year passed and nothing has changed, he continued.

He also said that the government should hold responsibility for any consequences in light of the agitations to be launched.
