Hearing on Burmese foreigners in judicial custody held


IMPHAL, May 18: 20 Burmese foreigners illegally staying at Ushoipokpi and Lilong Bazar under Lilong police station of the Thoubal District on August 30, 2012 were produced before the court of A Nouteneshwori Devi, Chief-Judicial Magistrate/Thoubal (CJM/TBL) and hearing on the charge sheet framed by the police against them began. Of a total of 20 Burmese foreigners produced in court, 14 are males, 4 females and 4 are children. Lilong police station submitted the charge sheet of case FIR No. 88(8)2012 Ps U/S 14 Foreigners Act, 1946 registered by this police station to the court of CJM/TBL on May 3.

Following the charge sheet framed against Burmese foreigners, the haring on the charge sheet commenced on May 10. Charge sheet hearing continued today. However the final judgement will be declared after the final hearing on the case is conducted in the court on May 21.

It may be mentioned that Burmese foreigners were apprehended during a drive conducted by a combined team of Police Commando, Bishnupur District, , Thoubal District and Imphal West district under the direct supervision of Inspector General of Police (Law and Order).
