Court asks respondents to file counter affidavit in state police Constable recruitment case


IMPHAL, May 6: The Manipur High Court today heard a case filed by candidates absent from the physical efficiency test (PET) during the recruitment process by Th. Radheshyam Singh, IPS and Chairman of Recruitment Board of Manipur police constable (Male/civil), Manipur police department for recruitment of police constables (Male/civil), 2000. Holding the hearing, the Manipur High Court conveyed respondents in the case to submit their counter affidavits to the court within seven days.

According to a source, eight candidates had filed a petition with the Court claiming that they could not appear in the PET conducted for the recruitment of Manipur police constable (male/civil) due to the then Manipur bandh and general strike. The hearing on the case was scheduled to be held today, May 6, 2013 with the court admitting the petition.

With the hearing on the case being held today at Manipur high court, the court conveyed the respondents in the case, Principal Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur and Director General of police (DGP), Manipur to submit their counter affidavits within seven days in connection with the case.

It may be mentioned that recruitment was in the process with police headquarter (PHQ) issuing notification for recruitment of constable (male/civil) 2000 of Manipur police department. The last date of submission of application forms for the recruitment was January 28, 2013.

However, candidates who are petitioners appealed to the court for PET for them to be held by fixing another day saying that due to general strike, they could not take the second PET scheduled to be held on April 6, 2013 for which the DGP, Manipur had issued a notification on March 25, 2013.

On the other hand, according to a notification by chairman of DPC board on May 3, the written test for recruitment  scheduled to be held on May 4 had been announced as postponed indefinitely.
