10 years imprisonment in Ganja smuggling case

IMPHAL, May 6: Even as the public and various civil society organizations have started raising questions over the nature of police investigations and legal justice, the Special court Narcotic substance and psychotropic substance (NDPS) today awarded 10 years imprisonment sentence to Md Rajauddin alias Laihao, 37, son of Md (L) Bajuruddin of Jirighat Badridam Assam at present Hafiz Hatta Golapati who had been earlier bailed out with regard to a case of smuggling ganja in 2002.
Md Rajauddin alias Laihao was arrested from his rented room located a Hatta Golapati by the State Narcotic Department on August 5, 2002 along with 100 kilograms of contraband Ganja which was sealed in 3 gunny bags.
A case was taken up against him in the court under section 20(6) (II) (C) ND & PS act and under the charge sheet by police under section 20(6) (C) ND&PS act and U/S 207 CRPC R/P.
It may be mentioned that the accused was on bail some months after his arrest with the case going on. The judgement today sealed the fate of Md Rajauddin to 10 years imprisonment at Sajiwa Jail today.
