Lok Adalat settles 152 cases on electricity theft and Motor Vehicle insurance

IMPHAL, April 28: The Manipur State Legal Services Authority has said in a press release that it organized a Lok Adalat on April 28 at Cheirap Court Complex during which 152 cases were put up concerning compoundable electricity theft cases and 54 cases were listed concerning Motor Vehicle Insurance claims cases relating to the United India Insurance Co. Ltd.
Three benches of Lok Adalat were constituted for the purpose of hearing and disposing the cases, it said.
It further said that members constituting the benches are Bench No.1 Shri M. Manojkumar Singh, Addl. Dsitrict & Sessions Judge, Manipur East, Shri Ch. Momon Singh, Advocate Km. L. Rebeda Devi, Advocate while Bench No.2 had S Imocha Singh, Addl. Dsitrict & Sessions Judge, Manipur West. P Tomcha Meitei, Advocate, K Manorama Devi Advocate and Bench No.3 had Kh. Gomati Devi, Retd. It continued that The Lok Adalat settled 152 cases in total and there were 54 cases pertaining to motor vehicle insured claims out of which, 30 cases were disposed off in the sitting.
A total amount of Rs. 45,94,000/· was awarded as compensation and the highest compensation awarded in case of death was Rs.9,00,000/· and that of injury Rs. 6,00,000/·which are record award amounts in Manipur till date, it said adding that there were 122 electricity related cases disposed off and a total amount of Rs.2,55,500/· being collected as fines during the course of the sitting.
