Rs 25 lakhs worth gold and cash looted

Imphal, Feb 22: Three unidentified armed men stormed into the house of  Thangjam Arun, Proprietor of Arun Enterprises, and took away gold ornaments worth Rs 25 lakhs along with Rs 45,000 in cash at gunpoint.

The incident took place at around 10 pm yesterday at the residence of  Thangjam Arun,  of Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai. Thangjam Arun is the proprietor of Arun Enterprises, a private firm hiring essential commodities for organizing functions. Arun was not at home when the incident took place.

According to family members, three masked armed men came inside the house and told Purnimashi, the wife of Arun, to hand over the keys of the safe where the gold ornaments and cash are being kept, at gunpoint. They forcefully took away the keys and locked Purnamashi in a room. Though Purnamashi shouted for help at the top of her voice, no one came to her aid as her voice could not be heard because of the loudspeakers being played for Lai Haraoba festival in the locality.

All the three armed men wore masks and their hands were also covered with gloves. They took away gold ornaments worth over Rs 25 lakhs from the safe along with Rs 45,000 in cash, the family members claimed.
A police case has been registered in this regard.
