MP urges people for support to general strike

IMPHAL, February 17: “Hit out the government because the government has hit the people”, demanded Gurudas Das, Lok Sabha MP and General Secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).
He was speaking to media persons during a press conference at the Imphal Hotel this evening at 5:30pm.
He further continued saying that the present state and central government have failed to take up any developmental issues of the people especially those in relation with the daily wage earners and instead seem more interested in hurting the people.

Appealing to the people of the state to support the two day nation-wide general strike on February 20 and 21 called by the All India Trade Union Congress, he said he has already met with the Chief Ministers of Odissa and Bihar who have assured their support for the general strike.

The conference was also attended by AITUC Manipur State Committee General Secretary, Dr M Nara.
The Lok Sabha MP announced that for the first time in the History of India, 11 Government recognized trade Unions will be jointly initiating agitations for the people.

The decision to launch the agitation was taken on Setember 4, 2012 during a national convention of the trade unions, he said.

He further elaborated that the agitations will be launched on ten issues including the skyrocketing prices; unemployment issue and failure to increase the minimal wages of daily wage earners among other issues.
He said he has already visited all the states of the country and now after visiting Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya, Manipur was his last stop.

Continuing on the Manipur context, the Lok Sabha MP said Manipur is currently facing a major problem of unemployment for which insurgency is blamed but that  it should not be forgotten that insurgency is only because of the Government's policies.
