Bus owners union threatens stir

IMPHAL, Feb 12, 2013: The All Manipur Bus Owners’ Federation (AMBOF) has threatened to launch several agitation including steering-off stir from next month if the State Government fails to come out with appropriate Transport Policy.
Addressing a press meet that was attended by representatives of several transport organisations at AMBOF office located at Keishampat (Ccpur Parking), general secretary of the federation, A Priyokumar lamented that the Govt fails to acknowldege the plights of the transporters.
Asserting that transporters of the State faced untold miseries due to the absence of proper Transport policy, Priyokumar pointed out that even misunderstanding cropped up among transporters as a result of random issuance of new permits to transporters.
He further slammed the Government for failing to come out with a definite Transport policy even after completion of draft preparation following rounds of meeting and consultation with transporters, concerned officials and Minister.
Priyokumar warned that the transporters’ organisations would resort to intense forms of agitation if the Government fails to come out with the Transport policy within the current month.
Meanwhile, the federation also appealed the Govt authority to clear pending dues to vehicle owners in connection with the last Assembly election. Condemning the killing of a driver in Kohima recently, the Federation also shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family.
