Muharram observed across India

New Delhi, Nov 25: Yaum-e-Ashura or 10th day of Muharram, symbolising the spirit of sacrifice was being observed across India with utmost respect and grief on Sunday.

Aashura is considered to be one of the most important and blessed days in the Islamic calendar.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar in which violence and fighting is forbidden.

The day is observed to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazarat Imam Husain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala along with his 71 staunch followers on this day in 680 AD.

In Lucknow, numerous Taziahs in the city are being taken out by individual households in the procession to be buried in different Karbalas in Uttar Pradesh.

The main procession of Taziah Julus is being taken out from Imambara of Nazim Sahab and Bada Imambara in Lucknow Sunday afternoon.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place by the administration along with diversion of traffic.
