Kejriwal elected convenor of Aam Aadmi Party

New Delhi, Nov 26: Arvind Kejriwal was elected as the national convener of his newly formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday.

At the first National Executive meet of the party after its launch on Saturday, Pankaj Gupta was elected national secretary and Krishna Kant its treasurer.

All the three were elected unanimously by the 23-member National Executive Committee.

“These people have been authorised by the Executive Committee to take appropriate measures to approach the Election Commission for registration. We have also taken steps to open bank accounts and receive donations,” lawyer Prashant Bhushan told reporters.

The National Executive will again meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the party launch function will be held on Monday.

Before the programme, Mr. Kejriwal and his aides would go to Rajghat and Ambedkar Bhavan in Civil Lines as a mark of respect to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who drafted the Constitution.

Earlier in the day, addressing his supporters, Mr. Kejriwal made a passionate plea to youth to join him full-time to bring about a revolutionary change in the country’s political system.
