Bungmual AR incident evokes condemnation

LAMKA, September 22: Yesterday’s incident involving the Assam Riffle and a local mob at Bungmual locality leading to an AR Gypsy being set ablaze has drawn much condemnation from several sections of the society.
The Churachandpur District Students’ Union, CDSU today condemned the action of the AR and said that the government must ensure that the 46 AR post which is sheltering the KCP (Nongdren) group be immediately relocated out of CCpur with immediate effect.
The student body said that the AR atrocities have become an emotional issue for the people of the district.
The Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) in a separate press release condemned the AR action in the strongest terms.
It claimed yesterday’s incident at Bungmual left one Sumzagou (60) of Gangpimual village injured after he ventured out of his home.
He was kicked at and punched by the AR personnel which left him bleeding from the head, it further claimed.
The statement further added they want the AR to prove that they are indeed the friend of the hills people.
Meanwhile, Maj Khandu of Assam Rifles has filed an FIR at the Ccpur police station alleging that his team had lost a Gypsy and an AK 47 riffle during the fire which was started by the mob violence yesterday.
