Need for new model of treatment for drug dependents mooted

IMPHAL, July 20: The closing ceremony of the 15 days free drug dependency camp for adolescence cum reception ceremony of National Awardee for Best Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction, 2013 was held today at the Existence Drug Dependence Resort, Langol.
Addressing the ceremony as the chief guest, National Awardee for Best IRCA, 2013 Gurumayum Joychandra Sharma who was felicitated during the function, said that he has a 15 bedded rehabilitation centre at Jiribam.
He continued that he has been running his centre, Youth Development Organization for which he received the Best Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction for more than 11 years and during the period more than 3000 individuals have been rehabilitated.
He thanked his staff for their dedication in their work for the centre and its inmates and further said that without them he would have never received the award.
He further added that there is a need to introduce a new model of treatment so as to encourage those who are drug dependent to enter into rehabilitation.
The award has been instituted for the first time under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, he said.
Bikram Laishram, secretary of Existence Drug Dependence Resort, Langol said the 15 days free drug camp was organized for the drug users who wanted rehabilitation.
He said the centre has been and will continue to take care and provide help to the drug dependents.
However, all efforts of the centres will be of no good until and unless, the concerned individual wishes to be rehabilitated from drug use.
