PM holds Nat Panel meet on Direct Cash Transfers today


New Delhi, Nov 26: The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Monday chaired the first meeting of the National Committee on Direct Cash Transfers to decide the roadmap and time lines for implementing direct cash subsidy scheme.

Prime Minister takes stock of preparedness to roll out direct cash transfer of subsidies through banking system from 1st of January next year.

Under the scheme subsidy benefits would directly be transferred as cash to beneficieries of such schemes.

The schemes include MNREGA, Subsidies on LPG, kerosene, pension payments and Various scholarships.

The cash benefits would be transferred on the basis of AADHAR card.

Prime Minister stressed on the need of connecting rural India through Aadhaar.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said that the government intends to complete roll out of the direct cash transfer through the Aadhaar system in the entire country by the end of 2013.

Unique Identity Development Authority of India will set up a dedicated cell of technical experts to facilitate Aadhar enabled Direct Cash Transfers and help individual Ministries.
