All party meet ends; SP, BSP not to seek vote on debate on FDI

New Delhi, Nov 26: The all party meeting convened by the Government to resolve the continuing deadlock in parliament ended with the parliamentary affairs Minister Kamalnath asserting that all the parties agree on a discussion on the issue of the FDI in retail.

He however said that the rule under which the discussion will take place, will depend on the respective presiding officers of the two houses.

However, government got a shot in the arm following an assurance from Samajwadi Party and BSP that they would not insist on vote on a debate on FDI in retail in Parliament.

Also the Trinamool Congress, which had tried to bring no confidence motion against the governemnt on the FDI issue, suddenly turned soft. Party is for a discussion on FDI issue but not insistent on vote.

Meanwhile, the BJP and the Left , AIADMK and the Biju Janata Dal seem adamant on a vote after discussion on the issue of FDI.

Ahead of the all party meeting Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh held a meeting with his key cabinet colleagues to chalk out a strategy.

In another significant development, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh .

The SP leader said that his party is against the reservation quota in promotions in government jobs.
